Giannis Vakirtzis

Biography
Yannis Vakirtzis was born in Piraeus in 1957 to painter parents. His artistic career started early. His first recognition came in 1971 when, at the age of 14, he won the first prize in a painting competition held by the Piraeus Prefecture. This was followed by first prizes in 1973 and 1975 in major competitions. His prize-winning work is in a state gallery. He attends the Athens School of Fine Arts and completes his studies with distinction. The Athens School of Fine Arts later awarded him the title of Doctor of Painting. Later in his career he goes abroad. He travels extensively to Austria, Switzerland, Spain and France, where he becomes familiar with the currents of contemporary art. He excels in Paris, winning the First Prize in a Group Painting Exhibition. At the same time, he holds a series of solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Today she lives and works in Athens. Yannis Vakirtzis is an active member of the visual arts scene in Greece. His rich contribution to Greek and international art is invaluable, his works adorn galleries, museums and private collections around the world.
